Developed in 1988, and beginning independent practice in 1992, Pomarico Design Studio provides full Architectural and Interior Design services on a wide range of health care projects.
Pomarico Design Studio's experience in health care architecture is the by product of extensive hands-on planning, design and administrative activities involving additions to and modernization of major metropolitan medical centers. Our singular emphasis is a high level of personal involvement, permitting the growth of true partnerships on which the Architect becomes the instrument through which the clients needs can be met. The medical facility is the focus of the architect’s endeavor, resulting in an in-depth understanding of the facility’s needs, and a strong personal relationship with the administrative staff.
Pomarico Design Studio maintains a multi-disciplinary architectural office with a vision to produce comprehensive, sensitive, and state-of-the art Architecture. In addition to direct healthcare projects, we provide an additional depth of experience for planning of ancillary health care functions, such as medical offices, teaching and conference facilities. PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Pomarico Design Studio, provides professional services through internal in-house capabilities and via the use of subcontractors for specialized services and required mechanical electrical and structural engineering. It is the belief of the Firm that access to related specialized consulting services, in combination with comprehensive architectural and planning services, creates successful projects.
CADD SYSTEM
Pomarico Design Studio utilizes computerized design services, drafting, three dimensional computerized modeling and solar design analysis. Computer aided design yields quick response, quality control, and the ability to review alternative solutions to the often complex design process. The Firm currently performs the full scope of architectural services in an automated environment. In addition computerized scheduling verifies the appropriate application of resources from the projects onset.
FACILITY EVALUATION AND DOCUMENTATION
Pomarico Design Studio assists in the evaluation and documentation of existing health care facilities. Included in the scope of these services are the preparation of existing conditions documentation on CAD drawings, providing the hospital with a computerized data base of the physical site and evaluation of the facility for code compliance and obsolescence.
Pomarico Design Studio, provides health care clients with comprehensive space programming capabilities. This includes interviewing of medical staff and department heads, coordinating space requirements with administrative personnel, and correlating projected needs with project budgetary requirements. The final program in the form of an architectural planning outline and program indicates all spatial relationships, functional descriptions, and departmental room requirements.
APPLICATION PREPARATION AND ACCREDITATION SURVEYS
Pomarico Design Studio maintains ongoing experience in the preparation and submission of applications related to the approval of construction contract documents. In addition, the Firm is fully capable of assisting the health care client with the architectural components of a Certificate of Need application, including programming, obsolescence documentation, architectural narratives, and supporting design drawings. The Firm can assist in the specialized review and analysis related to the Life Safety Code, as required for JCAHO and governing agency criteria.
CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
Pomarico Design Studio provides complete Schematic, Design Development, and Construction Contract Documents. Our Firm maintains a comprehensive electronic specifications library for the preparation of the accompanying Project Specifications Manual. In addition, all documentation is developed to fully include the requirements of all Group I equipment, as well as planning for the inclusion of Group II equipment space and functional requirements.

Pomarico Design Studio maintains available; two (2) highly specialized health care architecture professionals. One of these professionals is skilled in the application of general architecture to the medical environment, planning, site, and interior design, the other is skilled in medical planning, conceptual planning. In addition the Firm maintains a staff of one (1) medical equipment specialist and one (1) Health Care Project Manager.
Mr. Taranto is a leading health care planner and equipment specialist. Pomarico Design Studio's key individual is Mr. Michael A. Pomarico. Mr. Pomarico maintains over fourteen years of experience in health care facilities. Mr. Pomarico has performed at many levels in the design and planning of major metropolitan & medical centers. Mr. Taranto and Mr. Pomarico have maintained a long working relationship, heading up teams that have completed successful and notable health care projects. Pomarico Design Studio is involved on an ongoing basis in regard to handicapped accessibility conformance and upgrading of facilities. We are additionally current with the requirements of A.N.S.I. A117.1-1998, which is recognized by the State of New York in the Uniform Code and Construction of Hospital and Health Care Facilities 1996-1997. Our experience with the A.D.A. ranges from site accessibility to interior environments, work spaces, signage, and fire and life safety systems.
CONTROL METHODOLOGY
Pomarico Design Studio's primary control methodology is our hands-on approach. Since a principal member of the firm is the project architect, designer, and manager, a thorough understanding of the project and its requirements is maintained at all times. The design process is a protocol that thoroughly involves the Hospital and it's staff. Review and planning meetings are thoroughly documented with minutes of all meetings distributed to all parties. Schematic, Design Development, and Construction Documents are all reviewed and signed off on by the staff involved in their conception.
Our overview of the project during the construction phase evolves around the development of a close relationship with Hospital project management, and the contractor. Thorough shop drawing control, and comprehensive general conditions requirements ensures quality and construction schedule control to the best of the Architect's abilities.
PHASED CONSTRUCTION
Pomarico Design Studio is experienced with the coordination, planning, and incorporation of multi-phased projects. It is often more common than not that Hospital design projects are multi-phased, and their design and documentation must be developed accordingly. Additionally we are experienced in the process of coordination with a Construction Manager in the document development process.
