Emergency Services and
Emergency Department Design Experience

For over 50 combined years, we have performed hands on experience delivering successful healthcare projects. Emergency Department design strategies are the by-product of our 35 years of Emergency Department and Emergency Services healthcare design.

Key to our success is the knowledge and understanding that is necessary to process Emergency Services patient care strategies and emulate those strategies through successful planning and design concepts.

Our additional expertise in performing construction in the complex healthcare setting, knowledge of Interim Life Safety Measures, Infection Control Risk Assessment processes and creativity in executing complex construction phasing sequences enhances and expands the depth of our project delivery capabilities.

Recently Complete Projects

Saint Clare's Health System, Dover Campus

Expansion of the existing emergency department, through the implementation of a complex phasing sequence allowing a complete renovation of the ED, in place while patient care services continued without interruption.

Planning strategies consisted of creation of a new walk in entrance and waiting room, upgrade of the existing ambulance entrance, and creation of a new decontamination entrance. Pods of patient care services were arranged around a central core to allow for successful implementation of a fast track program, dedicated pediatric treatment area, urgent care, critical care and cardiac care. A 23 hour patient hold area was strategically located to allow for overflow expansion from the urgent care area during peak demand or crisis situations.

Implementation of a complete lock down and HVAC isolation process allows for capacity to support a quarantine or crisis situation.

Saint Clare's Health System, Sussex Campus

As an adjunct hospital to the Saint Clare's Health System located in northern New Jersey, the Sussex Hospital struggled for years to implement a successful modernization program. Though the original ED was relocated to temporary quarters over ten years ago, the hospital was never able to balance needs and budget to launch the new ED project.

After careful and thorough analysis, successful negotiation of the waiver and variation process with both the NJDHSS and NJDCA, a successful project proposal was approved. Not only did the successful solution meet minimum guidelines criteria for an ED, it was able to satisfy the tight budgetary constraints of the project.

The result, a modern ED meeting all necessary minimum standards of a large institution, in a small rural hospital.

The project included a modest addition to the existing building, creation of a new waiting and reception area, new ambulance entrance and canopy, centralized nurses station, orthopedic and cardiac trauma rooms and a small patient care and examination area.
